After the success of the 2010 edition, the Mugello Tuscany Open, first round
of the Pilsner Urquell Pro Tour circuit and an event in the Challenge Tour European
calendar, comes to the UNA Poggio dei Medici golf club for the second consecutive
year.
The tournament is promoted by UNA Hotels & Resorts, the Tuscan Regional Authority
and the Italian Golf Federation, with the valuable support of the sponsor Fabio
Inghirami, as well as the European Tour, Florence Province, Toscana Promozione
and the Mountain community of the Mugello and Scarperia town authority.
150 professional players from all over the world are taking part in this competition
running from the 12th to the 15th of May on this exclusive Tuscan course.
The course, one of the most prestigious courses in Italy and which already hosts
the Ladies Italian Open, was designed by Baldovino Dassù and the architect Alvise
Rossi.
The 18 holes, par 72, are set in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, with unparalleled
views of castles and ancient churches in the surrounding countryside.
On Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th, special areas in the resort, are set up by the Pro-Loco organizers of Scarperia
and dedicated to Tuscan history, local traditions, local food and wine.
The village, open to the public from 10.00 to 19.00, hosts twenty exhibitors who show, tell and sell their wares: handmade salami, cheeses
and other dairy products, olive oil, Mugello beer, honey and jams, as well as
superior wines, pointed out by a sommelier from AIS – Association of Italian Sommeliers
– which guests can taste and buy, to take home a little bit of Mugello with them.
There are also craftsmen and artists who show their work practiced for centuries:
wooden and stone sculpture, pens made from horns, forged knives, objects of the
goldsmith’s art, pictures and sculptures, as well as objects artistically crafted
in leather in the Florentine style.
